Effective Keys to Overcome the Shortcomings in Your Teenage Years

Depression, lack of self-esteem, or self-reliance and declining of the certainty in yourself are only some of the hindrances that the society faces while striving to have a sound and better life. You know, if you’re reading this and you yourself can relate, I want to tell you that I’ve been there too. Yes, it’s not easy, and it’s far difficult than anyone could ever think, but I stayed stronger than I could ever be.

I am writing this because I want to share how I stood up and get back to where I left my old self – the cheerful and positive old self. You know what? You wouldn’t believe this, but I tried hard to successfully initiate the process of “Getting Back My Old Self Plan”. Read and learn from my true to life experiences.

People aren’t aware that having too much exposure to the internet isn’t healthy. Why? If you think that whatever you get online is so much useful for you, you’re absolutely wrong with that. Hence, it delivers you to self-doubt and lots of insecurities which I personally experienced before. How? Nowadays, sharing photos of the ideal body type, skin complexion, hair colour, height, and fashion are only some of the trend topics especially on social media – that makes you doubt yourself, your personality, and your capabilities.

I am not saying that the internet is a bad influence on the society but most of all, it is one of the major reasons of hating yourself for not being that person you see on your screen. Moreover, it is now also used as another platform for bullying. So, if you’re guilty over these feelings you’re having due to internet exposure, try to log out sometimes and see the beauty of the real world for some time in your life. Or, you can limit your access to the online world, maybe an hour or two a day would do.

When I was on the stage of doubting my capabilities to survive in life, that’s when I knew who the people that are true to me through up and downs that I’m going through. It’s important that you know how to properly communicate with people, especially with your family. Also, filter your friends, because not everyone is meant to know all the struggles you’re facing, some may use that to destroy you – trust me with that.

In times of uncertainty, you’ll see and know those people who are only there at your best and who would be there even you’re at your worst. Especially on your teenage years, that’s when all the psychological challenges are occurring in the picture. It would be very hard to overcome that but trust me when you have enough people to support and cheer you up, nothing’s impossible. That’s why it’s important for you to be socially active, gather some true friends and connect with your family as much and as often and as you can. Because in life, nobody understands you the way your family does – communicate your struggles to them; don’t keep it all by yourself.

The world now is like a battlefield – people are head over heels in being the best amongst all others. Little did they know, they couldn’t be the best, nor the second best, third or so on. Life could be unfair maybe, but that’s to create balance and thrill along the way.  You couldn’t ask for a perfect body, a perfect life, and a perfect everything, simply because life is all about making imperfections look perfect depending on your perspective.

If you’re tired and having trouble with your present self, then try to change – for the better and not for worse. What I did is I strive hard to make another version of me, not to please people but to satisfy myself. Because there is nothing more fulfilling than doing great things for the satisfaction of yourself, once you figured out that you’re doing something to please others, then you chose the wrong path, my friend.

A majority would mistake this statement with investing money for a healthier you. No, that’s not the case, when I say invest, you must be willing to allocate time and determination upon doing certain things for the betterment of yourself.

What I did to overcome my teenage shortcomings? I pursue my passion which is dancing, I do regular exercise at home, yes at home, not only to have a slim and fit body but also to be more relaxed and motivated to start every brand-new day that may come along my way. The healthier you feel, the livelier you would be to pass through the obstacles on your way.

I know how it feels to be like at the bottom part of your life, I lost my self-esteem due to having a skin allergy – I wasn’t able to enjoy my teenage years by that time, I have to cover up myself from the harmful rays of the sun, the pollution, avoid eating lots of food which mostly are my favourites. I’ve been so down that I almost forgot my ability to smile, and almost forgot how it feels to be happy. I’m not being exaggerated in here, but what I’m telling is the truth, the things that I did overcome before I got here.

All I want to say is, the world is in its great need to see your smile and to feel your happiness. There’s so much around you that could divert your attention and turn your sadness into great happiness. Smile, practice spreading smiles all around you and you would much more satisfied and alive than before.

In life, it seems that everyone is facing a different form of an obstacle to surpass each day, no matter how hard it is, don’t ever try to give up because that could be your greatest asset to make yourself stronger and wiser. Don’t get too attached with your struggles in life, always look at the brighter side, always think that every person in this world is facing their own storms, every day, why not choose to be one of the mighty survivors, right? Spread positivity and fight mental illnesses that are gradually destroying the youth, and stealing the cheerfulness of the society. It is not something to be tolerated but it is something to fight as one.
